Kerala Beaches

Thirumullavaram Beach
Thirumullavaram Beach is cradled 6 kilometers north of the Kollam town. This beach is overcrowded with natives. The tourists can take the road conveyance as there are a plethora of local buses. Once William Dalrymple asserted that the visitors should blend their selves with the local crowd to get the feel of the place. The Thirumullavaram Beach is an amazing picnic spot for the visitors. The international visitors can avail Thiruvananthapuram International Airport which is only 72 kilometers away from the Kollam Town. This beach of desire is Selkirk's dream of oblivion.

Payyambalam Beach: 2kms from Kannur, Payyambalam, the long, lovely beach is a local picnic spot. Flat laterite cliffs jut into the sea at one end. Picturesque and incredibly beautiful, the beach is only walking distance from Fort St. Angelo. It is an ideal place to spend evenings, irrespective of seasons, because of its quiet and calm environment.

Muzhappilangad Beach: Muzhappilangad Beach, one of the longest beaches in Kerala is located 15 kms south of Kannur. This is the only drive-in beach in India.

kappad Beach: 16kms from Kozhikode, this is the historic beach where Vaso-da-Gama landed on 27th May 1498, with 170 men in three vessels. A small stone monument at the beach commemorates a memorial, which marks the landing place. This rock studded pleasant beach is locally known as Kappakadavu. An interesting feature of the landscape is the sprawling rock that protrudes into the sea. The ancient temple on the rock is believed to be 800 years old. The Kappad beach resort is one of the leading centers for Ayurvedic Health Holiday in Kerala.

Thikkoti Lighthouse: 22kms from Kozhikode is the lighthouse, which overlooks Velliyamkallu, the rock much dreaded by navigators, off Moodadi coast, which was built after a ship, wreck and the remains of which can still be seen here. The Velliyamkallu rock is the transit home of migratory birds.

Varkala Beach
South India is never really cool, but pleasantly warm in winter. So, tourists usually visit Varkala beach during the month of October, as it is cool and secluded. Varkala is 54 km from Thiruvananthapuram and 37 km from Kollam. Varkala beach is famous for mineral springs and a fantastic massage, so don't forget to bring aromatherapy massage oil and sun protection. The massage technique has been a closely guarded secret for thousands of years, but for many tourists it's a welcome revival from the toils of the road. Varkala is an important Hindu pilgrim center.
